Caucasian mountains are famous for their magnificent beauty all over the world. Located here National Park Borjomi- Kharagauli covers more than 700 square kilometers and is the largest in Europe.
Borjomi is one of the most favorite resort places of the former USSR due to its scenery, availability, useful climate and most of all mineral water springs.
The scientists and ethnographers discuss permanently its ‘Climate phenomenon’ : clearest glacier water from The Bakuriani Mountains, bluffs of the relic pine-trees, growing at the bottom of the cliffs make up a special ecosystem, where out of volcano subsurface arises world famous water of Borjomi cleft.
Heeling properties of this water are mentioned in old eposes. According to opinion of historians and archeologists, people used Borjomi both for drinking and taking curing bathes in ancient times. The stone bath-tubs dated beginning of the 1st millennium A.D. and found during excavations approve this fact. The Researches of the Georgian historians V. Bagrationi and V. Esadze and also other various materials confirm that Borjomi cleft mineral water was used from the 1st century B.C. till the end of 16th century A.D. Besides, there were found medieval clay pipes laid from some of Borjomi springs. Because of numerous wars in 16th – 18th centuries the springs left forgotten for a long time and only in 19th century, after Georgia joined Russian Empire, they gained close attention again.
Borjomi mineral water occurrence is situated in the central part of Adzhar-Imeretin chain of the Caucasian mountains at absolute height of 760-920 meters above sea level. Borjomi is produced from 9 holes located on the territory of Borjomi reserved area. The holes’ depth comes up from 1200 to 1500 meters.

Borjomi Valley
Borjomi springs exploration has been held since 1927. Just within the period from 1927 to 1982 57 holes with depth from 18.4 to 1502 meters were drilled. Before exploration works began there were 2 mineral water springs in the central part of the occurrence – Yevgenievskiy and Yekaterininskiy. They became an essential part of Borjomi valley history as ones of the first discovered springs and were named after Colonel Yevgeniy Golovin and his daughter, who was cured with Borjomi water.

There are three running lots in Borjomi valley at present: Central (within Borjomi city), Likanskiy (within Likani Town) and Vashlovani-Kvibiskiy (on the territory of the towns Vashlovani and Kvibisi). There are 9 operating holes on these lots. And 13 more holes are used for a regular monitoring of the occurrence itself (water level, pressure, temperature etc.). Set of works on recovery and improvement of the production holes is held systematically and aimed at high international quality standards maintenance.

As a result of drilling work in 1957–1978 the boundaries of Borjomi occurrence were significantly extended, new running plots were discovered and Borjomi water resources were meaningly increased. It allowed to produce up to 400 millions of bottles annually in Soviet times, and to produce and bottle Borjomy for delivelies in 30 countries of the world nowadays.
There are a lot of different kinds of mineral water in Caucasus region but none of them has a similar composition to Borjomi. Beginning from 19th century more than 100 scientific works and medical researches were written about its unique properties.
Already more than 170 years Borjomi mineral springs are thoroughly examined by geologists and chemists, who approve firmness of temperature, water physical and chemical properties, and its mineral composition. The chemical and microbiological analyses of the water are held on hourly basis at the factory according to the strict European standards.
The present day Borjomi is the same as it was more than a century ago. It is confirmed by researches being held since 1890. Approved by the score of international researching companies Borjomi mineral water is bottled at producing site and is delivered to consumers preserving all its unique properties.
